This week has been an exciting week for me; with the opportunity to flex my role as communications lead and the opportunity to broadcast our vision for Nkegete to the people of London.

I was really excited to speak at our Canary Wharf Breakfast Briefing, hosted by Jo Gilroy, Balfour Beatty’s Group Director of Sustainability.  April’s breakfast briefing revolved around this hot topic in the infrastructure industry, sustainable construction. It was great to hear about the origin of sustainability and get a strategic perspective from Jo. I was delighted to be able to present our Nkegete bridge build as an example of the company’s dedication to sustainable initiatives. The topic was clearly interesting enough to fight off the stiff competition; of a delicious breakfast spread of fruits, yoghurts, rolls and smoothies!

Later on, I travelled to the University of East London and was lucky enough to present to a combined class of Construction Management & Civil Engineering BSc & BEng students. I managed to explain the challenge, vision and plan to them, and share the video from Team Gogo who built a bridge last year. The students were really engaged and full of optimism for their future careers in the industry, it was totally refreshing to see.

Upon return to my desk, it was fab to see an internal news story published on the hub advertising our efforts. There is a buzz of excitement in the air! Everyone wants to hear about the project, and it feels like a real team initiative to support the community. It's a topic never far from discussion and a conversation that never bores me, so keep asking questions and getting involved!

It’s so fulfilling to be part of the team driving this, everyone is so enthusiastic and motivated. We still have our logo competition live, so don't forget to submit your designs! Thank you so much to the bridge team and the community of followers who are sending us positive wishes.
