What a crazy day it's been! Team Nkegete are on Day 6 of our awesome 77m suspended bridge project in Rwanda, and things are getting real. Today, we had two major missions to tackle: getting the deck panels in place and giving the right-bank abutment a flawless concrete finish. But guess what? We got a surprise over the weekend - the inauguration got brought forward by a whole day! But you know what? It only fuelled our determination even more.
So on Friday, we were all exhausted and needed a break. However after a well deserved weekend off, today the team worked their butts off from both sides of the bridge, making sure all 231 prefab deck panels were securely attached to the 77 crossbeams. It was no easy feat to fix all 924 nuts & bolts! We had to deal with all sorts of challenges, working at height and all, but I was blown away by how seriously they took safety and how determined they were to get it Right First Time. These folks are true pros.
Meanwhile, another group of awesome people focused on giving the Right Abutment a 100mm thick concrete finish. They mixed, poured, levelled, and polished that concrete by hand. Man, they really knew their stuff! The result? A smooth and downright stunning surface that will provide a solid gateway to the entrance of the footbridge.
Day 6 was a game-changer for our 77m suspended footbridge. The deck panels were secured in place, and the right abutment was looking absolutely on point, with its fresh concrete finish. Our team's precision and dedication were off the charts. Every task completed brought us one step closer to the finished bridge, and it was a clear sign of how committed we are to giving it our all.
So, yeah, it's been NUTS, but in the best possible way. Stay tuned for more updates on our crazy bridge-building adventure!
